Insights from the Minister
What makes your heart sing? Is it the distant mountains misted and silent or the gentle rain blessing the earth? Is it the thought of a certain person, or an event in your life? We all have that something special that makes our heart sing with joy. The real question is, “Does your heart sing in the everyday circumstances where you find yourself?”
“A woman said to the Prophet, "Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow." And he answered: Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the well from which your laughter rises was often filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "No, sorrow is the greater." But I say unto you, they are inseparable. Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your table, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed. Truly you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.”
During this holiday season, let each of us remember to choose to acknowledge the love and beauty in our life experience. Let’s rejoice in both joy and sadness, peace and conflict. For these are not separate qualities of life, but are the reality of a whole human experience. Delight in life. Delight in others. Judge no one. Let us celebrate beauty and power all around and within us. In this way, our lives will be their own blessing.
The peace that we begin to find in our lives will spread, and before we know it, there will be a tipping point of peace and joy. It will become contagious. We don’t need to wait for the Turkey dinner to be completed nor the Christmas cards to be mailed. We don’t need to wait even for Heaven. Not even for tomorrow. Right now, let us commit to allow nothing to stop the unquenchable Life that flows within us.
May your heart sing and your joy be full this sparkling season of light and love.
Infinite Blessings
